Coming soon, to an abandoned Victorian workshop and recording studio near you near you, is classical music by night at Yellow Arch Studios.
With the dark loom of work on Monday morning, Sunday night can often fail to provide us with something interesting and different to do, but on Sunday 19th March you’ll have the opportunity to lose yourself in the complex of small rooms and stages that form the Yellow Arch Studios. For anyone who’s never been, this place is a fascinating place, having converted a series of Victorian workshops initially into a recording studio and subsequently into a performance venue, and with a reputation for interesting and unique gigs.
Yellow Arch will host a night by the folks from the ever-expanding Classical Weekend Festival. From 5pm until late there’s going to be an amazing selection of things on offer, all loosely connected with classical music, but there’s also comedy, street food, free performances and all manner of cool stuff. A crowd favourite is a Steve Reich and then a Philip Glass performance at 8:30, but there’s opera choruses, Aaron Copeland’s Appalachian Spring, and a comedy performance called ‘Tenor and Baritone’ about the perils of trying to make a living singing by classical music.
