The Place
Revolución de Cuba is where Havana meets the Steel City. Located on Mappin Street, a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of West Street, this converted tramshed is a serves up a slice of authentic Latin-inspired food and ambience until late. While live salsa and DJs set the scene when the sun goes down, Sunday lunchtimes in the open and spacious restaurant area are a much more chilled affair with a suitably relaxed playlist, making it the perfect atmosphere for a bottomless boozy brunch.

The Food
Brunch at Rev de Cuba is all about traditional breakfast options with clever Latin twists. Take my choice, the brekkie burrito, for example; a tortilla stuffed generously with fry-up favourites sausage, egg and topped with crispy bacon, but accompanied with all the elements you’d expect from a burrito: refried beans, jalapenos, melted cheese and – the best part for me – smoky chorizo. For those wanting to spice things up a little more, Rev’s own fiery rum sauce is a tasty condiment to add. It’s a delicious dish and the fusion of elements from a traditional English brekkie and a Mexican favourite make for a tasty treat with a nice twist.

My dining partner opted for the full grilled breakfast, a hearty classic of sausage, tomatoes, toast, streaky bacon, mushrooms and a fried egg, which went down particularly well, especially when washed down with a spicy Bloody Mary (or three – it is bottomless brunch after all). The food was served quickly and the service was excellent – we didn’t even need to seek a refill of our bottomless drinks once! All dishes are priced individually but the most appealing option is the bottomless brunch; £20/£25 for one breakfast dish and all the drinks you want for a tipsy two hours. Mix and match from a sweet and refreshing rum-based classic mojito, a vodka-based peppery Bloody Mary, a crisp glass of prosecco, a chilled pint of Mahou or selected hot and soft drinks. Rude not to sample the selection on offer, right?

The Verdict

A chilled atmosphere, delicious, wholesome food and all the cocktails you could want for two hours? Cheers to that.

Bottomless brunch is served from 11am – 2pm every Saturday & Sunday.
