The guys behind Cutlery Work’s specialist beer bar Boozehound, as well as the Plough Inn out in Derbyshire, are bringing their new micro pub and café, The Boston Arms, to Woodseats.
After recently making the move away from their Cutlery Works home, they are now set to open the new Sheffield venture on Chesterfield Road this spring, bringing an exciting array of craft ale, cocktails, and wines to the area.
Given that the bar is situated next door to Woodseats Primary School, owners Martin Renwick and Robbie Macdonald have made the decision to only serve alcohol from 4pm onwards, giving them time during the day to serve up coffee from local roasters Smith Street, and bakes from local producers like Bullion Chocolate and 4 Eyes Patisserie.
Martin told Exposed: “It’s an amalgamation of everything we’ve learned at Cutlery Works and The Plough all in one site. It’s going to be a couple of things with two distinct vibes; a chilled out coffee shop in the day before it switches at four o’clock, where it becomes a micropub with food available and things like quizzes and tasting nights or meet the brewer events.”
“We want people to feel equally as comfortable coming in for a coffee as they do coming in for a beer. That’s what we’re going for.”
“The hope is that anyone who comes to the bar will find something for them. That goes for the beer as well. It’s definitely going to have a craft focus because that’s what we do, so most of the taps are dedicated to rotational craft beers, but there will be some more recognisable beers too.”

The venue is set across two floors, with a bar on the ground floor featuring eight keg lines, three cask lines, and a bottle fridge with 40-50 cans and bottles available, including American and Belgian imports as well as a host of local faves.
As Martin alludes to, they also have plans for an evening food menu and are in talks with caterers to take on the upstairs kitchen, in a set-up akin to Deckards at Barrowboy, or Slap and Pickle in Heist and The Dark Horse.
While it will be a welcoming coffee shop for post-school-run lattes during the daytime, the interior is definitely set to have more of a pub feel, with dark wood panelling and booth seating planned as part of the ongoing fit-out.
“I’m buzzing now,” says Martin. “It’s one of those things when you start something new, you’re always worried if people are going to go for it, or if it’s the right location, but as soon as we announced what we were doing and where it was, we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better response.”
“Everyone in Woodseats has got behind us, and we think that there’s space for what we’re offering. We just can’t wait to get people through the doors now and get it open.”
The Boston Arms, which takes its name from their Boston terrier logo and mascot, is all set for a spring opening in 676 Chesterfield Road. In the meantime, for updates go give them a like on socials.
