Indian-inspired eatery The Bhaji Shop, Thali Café has been a massive hit with customers since they opened on Chesterfield Road and even more so when they moved to Kelham Island last year. AND they’re about to get a whole lot better…
You might have seen them chugging along in their thali truck but they have now added some thali bikes to the roster! These signature turquoise-coloured bikes will be delivering a delectable array of dishes to the people of Kelham Island and surrounding areas starting from Mid-October.
“I actually thought of the idea ages ago, we were going to launch it when we first moved to Kelham Island but we never got around to doing it because we just got swamped!” says Matt Holdsworth, one of the owners.
This is perfect for those who don’t fancy heading out in the rain or the students who are too busy nursing their hangovers.
The menu changes every day so head to their Facebook page here which will be updated daily and then give them a call on 0114 275 5511 to order – they also accept card!
“I mean it’s basically what UberEat and Deliveroo are already doing but I feel like this is done with a bit more of a localised twist, it’s a delivery service that represents us, we want to serve our little community here the thali way,” he says.
For lunch, grab one of their roti wraps filled with sticky paneer or chicken tandoori, homemade chutneys, salad and sauces. For a lighter option opt for the salad version and for the full works, get the thali platter (a choice of meat, fish or veg curry served with flatbreads, rice, dahl, salad and sauces).
In the evening, wraps are unavailable but you can still get the thalis along with their shared platters which consists of a street delight dish served with their famous onion bhajis, spinach bhajis, veg samosas, homemade chutneys and raita. They even offer a bottle service; it’d be rude to not get a couple of beers or a bottle of wine to wash the food down with. Don’t forget about desserts too! All this for just a small delivery charge.
These are their core products which they will be starting off with but once they get into the swing of things, the delivery menu will eventually grow to the full range.
The idea is a nice quirky thing for Kelham Island but they’re hoping to branch out further as they progress, there are even talks of collaborating with other local businesses in future such as Depot Bakery. Who wouldn’t want fresh artisan bread and pastries sent to their door?!
Delivery is available on Tuesdays 12pm-2:30pm and Wednesdays-Saturdays 12pm-2:30pm and 6pm-9:30pm. Head here for regular updates!
