Over the course of a person’s life, they can collect a number of items that end up forgotten, stored in lofts, cellars, and garages. When these items are found, they may also bring up old memories, fond or otherwise, but are often then put back into their means of storage.
Not only does this mean you are losing out on vital storage space within your home, but you may also be sitting on a mini goldmine. A lot of items can be sold, sometimes for a high price, to make way for the new or simply to reduce the amount of clutter in your home.
Selling Jewellery
Old jewellery may not necessarily take up a lot of room, but it can become tangled and damaged over time. To avoid this, it can be a good idea to look at the items you currently own on a regular basis, and see if there are any that you no longer like, or that you do not wish to keep. Most of the major cities in the UK have precious metal stores in which you can sell these unwanted items. This means that you can sell gold in Birmingham, London, or other cities, in person or online, without needing to run the risk of posting and losing items.
You may also be able to sell costume jewellery and other pieces that do not contain precious metals. This can be achieved on social media, websites dedicated to selling, or even by taking them to a selling event, where you can set up and sell your jewellery alongside other second-hand items.
Selling Clothing
If your wardrobe is bursting full of clothes, or you find it a struggle to close your drawers, it might be time to sort through all your clothing. Anything that is full of holes, stained, or otherwise not in a good state can go straight into the rubbish bin, but anything else can leave you with a few options.
Some items that you no longer wear, you may opt to donate to charity. While this won’t profit you, it can be good to think of others. Otherwise, you could choose to sell your unwanted, outdated, or even wrongly sized clothing. This can be achieved online or at physical sales. Some clothes banks may also pay per kilogram of clothing that you bring.
Antiques
Some items may be worth a lot simply due to their age and condition. If you have any unwanted antiques in your home, these can, at times, go for a lot of money. When selling antiques, first look into their condition. If the paintwork is chipped, metal is dented, or pieces are missing, you are less likely to get a top price. Any trademarks or even artist marks on the piece can also be a deciding factor on the amount that you are offered.
There is no point keeping non-sentimental items in your home, especially if you do not have a lot of storage room to begin with. By looking into your options, and the money you can make, you can both be rid of these items and get a reward for your trouble.
