Montgomery Theatre and Arts Centre have announced that they will be joining Sheffield Theatres in January 2025.
Since being built in 1886, The Montgomery has been a crucial platform for young people to engage with the performing arts. The venue’s programme ranges from pantomimes to tribute bands to musicals and so much more, as well as being the performance home for many of Sheffield’s creative companies and schools.
Following a challenging period of closure for the theatre’s re-development, The Montgomery can now open its doors to a more diverse audience than ever before, with lifts, ramps and other accessibility features installed to help everyone comfortably enjoy the show.
In order to widen their horizons further still, The Montgomery been working in collaboration with Sheffield Theatres towards an exciting next chapter. From the 2nd of January 2025, The Montgomery Theatre and Arts Centre will be run alongside other iconic theatres, the Crucible, Lyceum and Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse under the management of Sheffield Theatres.
While it heralds a significant change for the venue, management are working hard to ensure that the unique ethos and character of The Montgomery remain as strong as ever, and the venue’s contracted staff will remain employed.
“The charity’s new future, as part of Sheffield Theatres, will ensure The Montgomery can continue to be a home for children, young people and communities for many more years to come,” says Linda Bloomfield, Executive Director of The Montgomery Theatre and Arts Centre.
“We’re grateful to our funders, partners, audiences and participants for coming on this journey with us, and we can’t wait to welcome you back into the incredible 138 year old building in the new year, which is now accessible for the first time in its history.”
