As all restaurants, bars and shops reopen, here’s a guide to the events happening in Sheffield this June…
Doc/Fest 2021: 04-13 June
After the 2020 Sheffield DocFest was cancelled because of the pandemic, the international film and arts festival will be returning this year to celebrate its 28th edition.
This year, DocFest will take place in hybrid form. Events will be delivered both in person in Sheffield and online allowing the public to enjoy the festival in a way that suits them best.
The opening and closing films were announced last month. Kicking off proceedings will be the European premiere of’ Summer of Soul (…Or When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised)’, by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. It is a film that will inspire the next 10 days of programme through its testimony of a unique moment in history, the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, and the transformative power of culture and music. The closing film will be the world premiere of ‘The Story of Looking’, the latest film by Mark Cousins. In a time when our common experiences are shaped by long confinements and a constant assault from images, this film proposes that we look again into the world’s complexities, contradictions and beauty. Cousins will also participate in a live-streamed Q+A following the screening.
Alongside paid events, many free listings are happening. A full events list of free events can be found here.
Parkrun: 05 June 2021
Parkrun is set to return to Sheffield’s parks on Saturday 5 June. The Saturday morning 5km event will return to six locations in the city, Endcliffe, Graves Park, Concord, Millhouses, Hillsborough and Manor Fields.
Greg Fell, Director of Public Health of Sheffield said: “A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes to make sure these events can return as the pandemic continues, and we’ll be supporting Parkrun to put any additional measures they need to in place.
“Parkrun is very popular and for good reason. We know it’s a moment many people in the city will be excited about, as we all continue to return to doing the things we love.”

Sheffield Vintage Kilo Sale: 05 June
The UK’s biggest kilo sale is returning to Sheffield Cathedral on 5 June.
The event invites the public to choose their favourite pick and mix vintage items for £15 a kilo. Doors open at 12pm for general admission. Early bird tickets can also also available for 10am access.
To ensure social distancing guidelines are followed, there will be timed ticketed entry times and all capped shopping capacity numbers. All shoppers must wear masks and use the hand sanitising stations around the room.
Musical Theatre Drive-in Live: 12 June
A day of musical theatre is coming to Sheffield this summer for one day only. On 12 June, South Yorkshire’s performers are bringing a “theatrical extravaganza” to the Orange Meadowhall Shopping Centre car park.
Due to the global pandemic, South Yorkshire performers have been off the stage for over a year. This event is a perfect opportunity for them to show off their talents to a live audience and raise money in the process to support the youth housing charity Roundabout.
There will be four performances throughout the day at 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm, performing theatre hits from Hairspray, Oliver, We Will Rock You and many more. At the 4pm show actor and singer Matt Croke, best known for his starring role in Disney’s West End hit stage version of Aladdin, will be taking centre stage.
The event will take place in a drive-in format to keep the public safe and in line with social distancing guidelines.
