Home to one of the most celebrated bands of all time, Liverpool is known for a lot more than its rainy climate. It’s where The Beatles hit the big time, where Gerry and the Pacemakers got into the groove and where Elvis Costello perfected his craft.

And with this solid musical foundation comes an unrivalled music scene. Armed with everything from Indie-Rock to EDM and Soul, this North-western city is easily reachable by train for music lovers everywhere.

Here are just a few things for your itinerary.

Musical legends

We’ve already covered the most memorable legends that formed their roots in Liverpool; it’s something that the city holds dear to its heart to this day. All over the city you’ll come across reminders of The Beatles. Whether it’s John, Paul, George or Ringo, Liverpudlians treat each member like a deity.

As well as beautiful art all over the city depicting the band’s success, you can visit The Cavern Club where they played a lot of their early gigs. You can also visit The Beatles Story, an exhibition that details their rise to fame.

Diversity

Of course, The Beatles had a huge impact on the music industry in Liverpool and the UK as a whole. They have inspired countless acts after them, many of which revive their iconic sound for modern audiences.

And that’s not all. Liverpool is very famous for its night life and is a hotspot for partygoers across the country. With venues like The Jacaranda playing non-stop vintage classics, Invisible Wind Factory that stages awesome discos in a former wind turbine factory and The Zanzibar for new artists, you’ll find everything you need here.

Recording studios

If you prefer to explore the music scene during the daytime, there are plenty of music studios to pique your interest. It’s home to the world-famous Abbey Road Studios which (you guessed it) was frequented by The Beatles, as well as Parr Street Studios, Crash Studios and the brand-new Pirate Studios on Regent Road.

Whatever kind of music you’re into, there’s bound to be a studio where history was made.

Museums

With such a huge musical legacy comes plenty of museums. Visit the British Music Experience for an overall picture of the UK music scene through the decades or head to Liverpool Beatles Museum to learn more about the city’s pride and joy. For an even deeper look, Cavern Mecca has been covering The Beatles since 1981 and was the founder of Beatles fan-based tourism in Liverpool.
