Acclaimed artist Joe Scarborough has created an original work for Weston Park Cancer Charity to support people affected by cancer during the coronavirus outbreak.

The sketch depicts a key worker theme was created in 26 minutes as part of the national 2.6 challenge to support charities like Weston Park Cancer Charity, whose ability to fundraise has diminished despite charitable services being needed now more than ever.

The unique sketch, celebrating our NHS heroes, will be available for auction until 31st May 2020. Speaking of the sketch, Joe said: “I’ve wanted to create something new for a while, so when the opportunity to collaborate with Weston Park Cancer Charity came along, in Weston Park Hospital’s 50th anniversary year, it seemed like the perfect fit. It is so important to keep spirits high during these uncertain times and celebrate the health services which so many people are relying on – hopefully, it might even help brighten someone’s day too.”

Weston Park Cancer Charity’s CEO, Samantha Dixon added: “This year, we were due to celebrate 50 years of Weston Park Hospital but sadly many of our anniversary fundraising activities, including our gala ball have been cancelled. We are extremely thankful to Joe for gifting his time and skills to create a unique piece of artwork which will celebrate everything our healthcare heroes are doing to care for vulnerable people affected by cancer.

Samantha adds: “With one in two people affected by cancer, the demand on our services is already growing but the current covid-19 outbreak is creating additional challenges for anyone living with and beyond cancer. It’s why Weston Park Cancer Charity promises to be there for cancer patients and their families, together at every step for cancer patients and their families struggling with the practical, emotional and financial challenges due to covid-19.

But, we and the work we do relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses across the region so we’re delighted that Joe has chosen to support us in this way and can’t wait to see what he creates.”
