A fundraising event for Sheffield dad Stephen Brooks has been announced on Tuesday 11th December, taking place at 99 Mary Street from 6-9pm.
46-year-old Stephen, who earlier this year was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour, is looking to raise £75,000 in order to undergo Proton therapy – a private treatment which avoids the potentially damaging nature of Radiotherapy when used on brain tissue.
On the night there will music and drinks, plus an auction and raffle featuring plenty of special artwork and prizes.
Auction items include artwork from Pete McKee, The Designers Republic, Mick Marston, Tom J Newell, Dry British, Geo Law, Peter and Paul, The Cafeteria, Lisa Maltby, Jon Cannon, Matthew Conduit, Ste Johnson, Dan Reed, Kyle Wilkinson, Emily Redfern, Megan Elis, Joe Horner, Side By Side, DED Associates, Olivia Bliss, and a very special item courtesy of RichTone Music and Geo Law.
Currently confirmed raffle prizes include x2 Tramlines 2019 tickets, 2x tickets to a Sheffield United game at Bramall Lane, a dining/cinema experience at Showroom and a number of signed LPs.
On his JustGiving page, Steve wrote: ‘The main difference between the NHS Radiotherapy treatment is that the radiation can not be isolated to only target the tumour and unfortunately radiation spreads into healthy brain tissue, damaging the healthy tissue causing possible cognitive damage, giving patients problems down the line, after a few months or if they’re lucky years. Proton therapy however targets solely the tumour and it’s roots, which have spread through my brain, but no healthy brain tissue, so in essence my brain wouldn’t be harmed in any other way. The reality is I want to stay as I am for as long as possible, sharing and making memories with my beautiful family, and not be further compromised.’
